Before UnionRock, Kent was the Controller at Mallard Exploration, LLC where he managed the accounting and treasury functions, and assisted in financial planning and analysis.   Mallard Exploration, a Natural Gas Partners backed upstream company, was founded in August 2017 and sold in January 2023.  Prior to Mallard Exploration, Kent was the Exploration & Production Accounting Manager at SM Energy overseeing financial and operational accounting including acquisitions, divestitures and non-monetary exchanges.  Also at SM Energy, Kent served as the Internal Audit Manager ensuring the internal control structure complied with the Sarbanes-Oxley Act and performed detailed audits of processes and transactions.  Kent began his career performing financial statement audits at Hein & Associates LLP primarily focused on upstream oil and gas companies. Kent received a B.S. of Business Administration in Accounting from the University of Colorado, Boulder Leeds School of Business.  Kent is a Certified Public Accountant in Colorado and an Accredited Petroleum Accountant.
